Regeneration: Automatically revives the Tentacle of Protection, Tentacle of Healing, and Tentacle of Assistance if destroyed.
Fusion Effect: If Maruki’s HP falls below 50%, Azathoth fuses with him, fully restoring Maruki's HP.
Drawback: This fusion costs Maruki 10 SP points for two-three turns, gradually exhausting him over time.

Active Skills:

Memory Blow: Light Physical damage to all foes with a low chance to inflict Forget. SP Cost: 12
Nuclear Crush: Heavy Nuke damage to all foes. SP Cost: 18
Raining Seeds: Heavy Physical damage to all foes, hitting 1-3 times. SP Cost: 24
Evil Smile: Medium chance to inflict Fear on all foes. SP Cost: 15

Tentacle of Healing: Restores a small amount of HP to Maruki or one ally every turn.
Tentacle of Assistance: Randomly casts a support skill such as Rakukaja (defense boost) or Tarukaja (attack boost).

Battle Notes:

Strengths: Versatile mix of Physical and Magical damage. Exceptional burst damage potential with Amplify Force/Magic paired with Tyrant Chaos or Nuclear Crush. Tentacles provide a dynamic edge in both offense and defense. High endurance and healing keep Maruki in the fight longer.
Weaknesses: Vulnerable to prolonged battles due to SP depletion (particularly after the Regeneration effect). Psychic weakness can be exploited by high-level enemies. Reliance on Tentacles for support leaves him exposed if they are overwhelmed.

NEW WIP

Maruki’s Phases of Azathoth: Phase 1.5 & Full Power with 100% Regeneration
Phase 1.5: Ascendant Azathoth (Level 99)
Arcana: Councillor
Attributes:

Strength: 86
Magic: 94
Endurance: 95
Agility: 75
Luck: 78

Null: Curse, Bless, Status Ailments
Absorb: Wind
Resist: Physical, Nuke, Gun
Weak: Psychic (less effective due to high Endurance).

New Passive Abilities:

Warping Will: Maruki can teleport freely in battle via Azathoth’s tentacles, enabling instant positioning. Gains a 20% evasion bonus against all attacks when teleporting.
Illusory Mirage: Creates 3 mirages of himself, each capable of performing fake attacks. These mirages dissipate when struck but distract foes, reducing their accuracy for 2 turns.
Unstoppable Flow: Nullifies any attempts to inflict status ailments on himself or his allies.
Tentacle Suppression: Tentacles automatically restrain and incapacitate any enemy below Maruki’s level, preventing their actions for 1 turn. If restrained for 2 turns, enemies take heavy Almighty damage.

New Active Skills:
Tentacle Freight (Heavy Physical): Tentacles smash into foes with the force of a freight train, dealing Severe Physical damage to all foes and a 30% chance to knock them down. SP Cost: 28
Phantom Break: Teleports to an enemy mid-turn and delivers 2 Almighty strikes before vanishing, leaving behind mirages. SP Cost: 25
Binding Grasp (Restrict Ability): Temporarily disables an enemy’s ability to cast magic for 1 turn. SP Cost: 15

Upgraded Mechanics:
Tentacle Extensions: Maruki’s tentacles can scale walls, lift objects, or create barriers. He can float for 2 turns via tentacle leverage, making him immune to ground-based attacks.
Invisible Strikes: Some tentacles become imperceptible to the naked eye, dealing unavoidable damage. These strikes have a chance to bypass enemy defenses.
Dual Azathoth Turns: Azathoth now attacks twice per turn. The second attack favors Evil Smile (medium chance of Fear).

Phase Weaknesses:
Lowered defense during extended teleportation or after multiple Phantom Breaks.
Tentacles are more effective at single-target domination than handling large groups of foes.
Still vulnerable to Psychic attacks, although less due to Endurance scaling.

Full Power: Maruki with 100% Regeneration (Azathoth Assimilation- Phase 2)
Level: 99+ (Unquantifiable due to sheer power increase).
Arcana: Godlike Councillor

Attributes:
HP: 15000

Tentacle Limbs: Both arms extend into writhing tentacles lined with countless glowing eyes that dart in all directions.
Tattered Suit: His once-pristine attire is ripped and warped. Pulsating veins stretch across the exposed skin, giving him a grotesque, otherworldly look.
Predatory Maw: His tongue transforms into a prehensile tentacle capable of dealing Almighty damage.

Resistances: N/A
Null: Physical, Gun, Bless, Curse
Absorb: Nuke, Wind
Weak: None (status ailments instead increase his berserk strength).

Unique Traits:
Regenerative Overload: Restores 200 HP per turn passively. Any time he suffers damage, he regenerates an additional 100 HP at the start of the next turn.
Berserk Immunity: Status ailments like Fear, Dizzy, or Rage cause him to grow stronger instead of incapacitating him. In this state, his attack power doubles, and his actions become unpredictable.

New Active Skills:

Tentacle Spikes: All visible and invisible tentacles transform into sharp spikes, delivering 10 Almighty strikes to random targets when using 40 SP otherwise they deal physical damage.

Azathoth’s Command: Forces enemies within a 10-meter radius to kneel, reducing their attack and defense for 3 turns by 75%. SP Cost: 40

Wings of Annihilation: His veiled mask spreads into jagged wings over his face, firing waves of Almighty energy across the battlefield, dealing Severe Almighty damage to all foes. SP Cost: 60

Special Ability:

Black Void (Story-Exclusive Ability):
Activation: Maruki channels a fraction of Azathoth’s pure consciousness, enveloping a 20-meter radius in a black, star-filled void. All within the area are bombarded with infinite cosmic knowledge, rendering them completely frozen and vulnerable to all attacks.
Effect: Deals Colossal Almighty damage to a specified target and inflicts Instant Incapacitation for 3 turns.
Drawback: Maruki can only sustain this for 5 minutes before risking his mind shattering completely, which may result in death or permanent cognitive destruction. THis can also only happen ONCE per battle

Reality Ripple
Description:
Reality itself bends and twists as Azathoth's power ripples through the battlefield, transforming the environment into a surreal, alien landscape. Maruki channels this ability to create immediate chaos and shift tactical dynamics in his favor. The battlefield morphs unpredictably, but always to Maruki’s advantage, reflecting Azathoth’s incomprehensible dominion over reality. ONLY DONE ONCE IN BATTLE.

Effects:

Barriers: Maruki can erect barriers of writhing tendrils or ethereal walls, blocking enemy movements or line of sight. These barriers absorb damage equal to 15% of Maruki’s max HP before dissolving.
Sinking Terrain: Sections of the ground become unstable, creating hazards that lower enemy agility and prevent movement in affected areas for 2 turns.
Isolated Zones: Fragments of the battlefield are split into floating platforms or disconnected areas. Enemies are separated from allies, forcing them into one-on-one engagements or disorienting them entirely.

Eternal Horizon
Description:
Azathoth’s incomprehensible power distorts time and space, trapping enemies in a looping dimension. Those caught within experience déjà vu as they are forced to relive the same actions repeatedly, unable to break free without immense willpower. This ability manifests as a shimmering horizon stretching endlessly in all directions, disorienting foes.

Effects:

Looped Attacks: the enemy caught in the Eternal Horizon are forced into a time loop. Any actions they attempt (physical attacks, magic, or support skills) have 75% chance of missing for 3 turns.
Gradual Drain: The looping space siphons away the target’s SP or stamina, reducing it by 5 SP per turn for the duration of the effect.
Mental Strain: the target trapped in the horizon have a 30% chance to suffer Fear after the effect ends, as their minds grapple with the overwhelming experience of the infinite loop.

Eye of Azathoth
Description:
One of the pulsating, grotesque eyes on Maruki’s tentacles opens fully, revealing a glimpse of Azathoth’s unyielding gaze. The sight is horrifying and awe-inspiring, forcing those who meet its gaze to confront the incomprehensible. Fear grips their hearts, and their defenses crumble as their minds unravel.

Effects:

Fear Infliction: All enemies in the area of effect have a 100% chance to be afflicted with Fear, lowering their evasion and potentially causing them to skip their turn.
Defense Reduction: The horrifying gaze shatters the composure of enemies, reducing their defense by 30% for 3 turns.
Focused Paralysis: Enemies that succumb to Fear are unable to target Maruki directly, instead turning their attacks to weaker party members or even their allies.

Phase Weaknesses:
The berserker nature of this form makes Maruki unpredictable, attacking allies and enemies alike if triggered.
Azathoth’s overwhelming power strains Maruki’s body, making prolonged battles dangerous.
The Black Void ability, while devastating, leaves Maruki mentally fragile if overused.
Warping reality takes a toll on Maruki’s focus, temporarily reducing his defense by 10% for 2 turns.
This ability can only be used once every 4 turns due to its immense power.
Eternal Horizon- ability drains 40 SP per use, making it unsustainable for prolonged battles.
Eternal Horizon can only target one enemy or a small group within a confined radius.
Activating the Eye costs 50 SP due to the immense strain of channeling Azathoth’s overwhelming presence. The ability’s range is moderate (a 15-meter radius), requiring Maruki to get closer to enemies to use it effectively. Prolonged use risks overloading Maruki’s mind, temporarily lowering his accuracy for 1 turn.

Revised Cognitive Framework for Trauma Exploration – “Cognitive Pathways”

An Adaptive and Empowering Approach to Emotional Recovery

Date: TBD

Author: Dr. Takuto Maruki

Purpose

To refine the original concept of the “Cognitive Labyrinth” into a safer, patient-centered therapeutic framework, minimizing potential risks while empowering participants to confront and process their traumas at their own pace.

Overview

The original “Cognitive Labyrinth” model was designed to facilitate exploration of unresolved trauma through metaphorical visualization. However, unintended consequences in preliminary testing revealed the need for substantial revision.

The updated framework, Cognitive Pathways, replaces the labyrinth structure with a flexible, patient-defined environment, prioritizing emotional safety while maintaining dynamic and engaging exploration.

Structure of the Cognitive Pathway

1. Preparation Phase

  • Consent and Transparency: Patients fully understand the framework’s purpose and process.

  • Comfort Environment Selection: The pathway begins in a deeply familiar and comforting location.

  • Introduction of Tools: Patients are equipped with calming elements to aid in grounding.

  • Mapping Interface: A manifested board and pawn system allows visualized journey tracking.

2. Pathway Experience

  • Symbolic Navigation: Patients select their destination within the cognitive space.

  • Focus on Objects and Symbols: Rather than direct confrontation, objects symbolize emotions.

  • Cognition Manifestation (Optional): Patient-approved representations may appear.

3. Safety Measures

  • Freedom of Exit: Patients can leave the pathway at any time.

  • Calming Anchors: Grounding elements provide emotional stability.

  • Non-Linear Progress: No fixed route; patients choose their journey.

4. Post-Pathway Debriefing

After exiting, patients discuss encountered symbols and interpretations.

Technical Innovations: Cognitive Cells

To avoid reliance on external entities (e.g., Azathoth), the framework utilizes Cognitive Cells for stability and adaptability.

  • A minimal fragment of Azathoth: Ensures structure without external corruption.

  • Maruki’s blood and patient’s blood: Harmonizes control over the environment.

Ethical Safeguards

  • Informed and Voluntary Participation: Patients consent with full understanding.

  • Patient-Driven Process: Full control over navigation and interactions.

  • Minimized External Influence: Limited reliance on external entities.

  • Ongoing Testing and Feedback: Framework refinement based on participant experiences.

Future Prospects

The Cognitive Pathway aims to be a cornerstone of therapeutic intervention, empowering individuals to face trauma at their own pace. Self-experimentation has provided insights, and broader validation is the next step.

Proposed Cognitive Framework for Addressing Stagnant Recovery – “Cognitive Labyrinths”

Date: October 17th, ??

Subject:

The “Cognitive Labyrinth” Framework for Trauma Exploration

Purpose:

To create a structured and ethical approach for individuals struggling to confront their trauma or stagnant recovery, emphasizing patient autonomy and emotional safety.

Overview

While facilitating cognitive therapeutic sessions at New Beginnings Foundation (the charity collaboration Rumi and I established to support survivors of trauma), I encountered a recurring pattern among participants. A subset of individuals consistently displayed avoidance behaviors—unable or unwilling to confront underlying fears, insecurities, or suppressed emotions tied to their trauma. Despite numerous interventions, some clients appeared “stuck,” as though navigating a cyclical loop of self-blame, denial, or detachment.

This stagnation inspired the development of what I have tentatively titled the Cognitive Labyrinth—a guided mental exercise designed to allow individuals to safely explore their own emotional landscapes. The method serves as a metaphorical “maze” wherein patients navigate the core sources of their struggles. Unlike traditional exposure therapy, this approach minimizes direct confrontation and instead encourages symbolic processing of trauma in a controlled cognitive space.

Structure of the Cognitive Labyrinth

1. Pre-Labyrinth Preparation:

  • Consent and Transparency: The patient must fully understand and agree to the process. The labyrinth is not imposed; it is a collaborative tool, adaptable to their comfort level.

  • Establishing Anchors: Patients identify an “anchor” (a safe memory, object, or belief) to which they can mentally return at any point if the process becomes overwhelming. This ensures a sense of agency throughout.

  • Clear Objectives: The therapist and patient collaboratively define the primary goal of the labyrinth exercise—e.g., confronting suppressed guilt, clarifying confusion about an event, or exploring feelings of loss.

2. The Labyrinth Experience:

  • Metaphorical Visualization: The patient is guided into a meditative state where they visualize entering a labyrinth. Each corridor represents aspects of their internal struggles (e.g., fear, anger, sorrow). The therapist acts as a guide but avoids prescribing meaning; the patient assigns their own interpretations to the symbols they encounter.

  • Symbolic Encounters: Rather than reliving trauma directly, patients interact with symbolic representations of their fears and insecurities (e.g., a shadowy figure for fear, a locked door for avoidance). This approach externalizes internal struggles, making them more manageable to process.

3. Pacing and Breaks:

The labyrinth is intentionally non-linear; patients can choose to backtrack, pause, or leave entirely if they feel overwhelmed. There is no “correct” path—progress is defined by personal insight, not completion of the exercise.

4. Exit Protocol and Debriefing:

Patients are gently guided out of the labyrinth once they’ve reached a natural stopping point or achieved a key insight. This is followed by a debriefing session where the patient reflects on what they encountered and how it relates to their real-life experiences.

Ethical Safeguards

  • Informed Consent: The labyrinth is only used with patients who express interest in and understanding of the process. No patient is ever coerced into confronting areas of their trauma they are not ready to face.

  • Safety First: The process is designed to prioritize emotional safety, offering multiple points of exit and grounding techniques.

  • Therapist as Collaborator, Not Director: The therapist’s role is to guide and support, not to interpret or impose meaning on the patient’s experience. The focus remains on the patient’s autonomy and personal narrative.

  • Ongoing Review: Feedback from patients is integral to refining the method. Regular evaluations ensure that the labyrinth remains a constructive, non-harmful tool for recovery.

Potential Case Applications

  • Case A: A participant avoids processing guilt over a loved one’s death, expressing feelings of paralysis and detachment. Within the labyrinth, they encounter a locked door they feel compelled to open. They later reflect that the door symbolized the emotional “closure” they had been denying themselves.

  • Case B: A young patient struggling with self-esteem confronts a dark, endless corridor in the labyrinth. They choose to turn back, later realizing this represents their tendency to avoid self-reflection. Over time, they return to the corridor and discover a hidden mirror, symbolizing self-acceptance.

Future Prospects

The Cognitive Labyrinth framework shows promise as an adaptable tool for trauma recovery, especially for individuals resistant to traditional approaches. As of now, the method is in its conceptual stages, and I am committed to ensuring its ethical application. Trauma recovery is a deeply personal journey, and the labyrinth must serve as a gentle guide—not a forceful directive.

Ultimately, the goal is to empower patients to find their own way out of the maze—at their own pace, on their own terms.

Two weeks since Maruki’s arrival.

The sterile hum of Maruki’s lab filled his ears as he sifted through research notes, his thoughts clouded by the presence of Azathoth, always lingering just beyond his consciousness. The soft knock at his office door startled him from his reverie.

“Dr. Maruki?” The receptionist poked her head in, her voice carrying a faint unease. “It’s time for your monthly meeting with Haven’s Reach. There’s... uh, a new chief organizer this time.”

Maruki blinked, setting his pen down. “A new organizer ” He had read reports of a certain organization going by that name who were working closely with this lab long before he first came here to this strange place.

Supposedly, he collaborated with them on multiple grounds by raising awareness with free therapy sessions and likewise. He doesn’t even know that organization- perhaps it's linked to the gap in his memory? Who knows? “Did they give a name?”

“No, sir. Just that it was urgent, considering how closely they’ve worked with your lab.” She stops, her glassy eyes doing a once over on his notes. “And also you are late.”

His brow furrowed. While the collaboration with the charity had always been beneficial, this sudden appearance of them when most cognitions were docile in this world felt oddly out of place. With a resigned sigh, he stood, straightened his lab coat, and headed for the meeting room.

The charity’s workspace that occupied this part of the building was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the cold sterility of his lab. Maruki walked in, his mind preoccupied with the nature of the meeting—only to freeze just a few meters away from the entrance.

Rumi.

Her red hair fell loosely over her shoulders as she stood at the head of the table, organizing papers with a calm, practiced efficiency. She looked up at him, her dark red eyes meeting him with a flicker of familiarity, though no recognition of the depth behind it.

“Ah, Dr. Maruki,” she greeted him warmly, offering a small bow. “It’s nice to finally meet you in person. I’ve read so much about your work.”

Maruki felt the air leave his lungs, his hands trembling at his sides. His world narrowed to her—her voice, her presence, her kindness radiating like it always had. Her age, resembling his; gave him the proper impression that- this was Rumi. For sure. The Rumi he had left in the hospital with an ache residing in his heart.

She isn’t the Rumi who had lost everything. Maruki reminds himself. She is someone else entirely now, and she doesn’t remember me.

Did their paths converge in his world?
“I—” His voice caught in his throat, and he forced himself to breathe. “It’s... good to meet you as well. You must be the new organizer?”

She smiled softly, her expression gentle. “Yes, I’ve recently taken over. I’ve been compiling a list of candidates for therapy—individuals who might benefit from your cognitive-behavioral treatment program. I thought it’d be best to bring them to you directly.”

Maruki swallowed hard, nodding mechanically. “Of course. It’s... what we’re here for, after all.”

Rumi tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing as if trying to place him. “You know, now that I think about it... Have we met before?”

The question hit him like a thunderbolt. His mind raced. Did she remember something? Some sliver of their past? He struggled to compose himself, forcing a smile that felt hollow even to him.

Right, they had a small conversation at the hospital. He doesn’t wish to bring that up again.

“I doubt it,” he said carefully. “I’ve... only ever worked in research and therapy. But perhaps... I reminded you of someone?”

She frowned in thought, her lips pursed, then shook her head. “Maybe. It’s strange... But I suppose it doesn’t matter.” Her smile returned, softer this time. “You were quite late, looking a little uneasy too right now- busy at the lab?”

Maruki stiffened, the words tearing at his composure. He tried to muster a neutral response, but the raw ache surged to the surface. “Yes,” he murmured, his voice barely audible. “I’ve been focused on my work. Bringing cognitive pscience to the world comes with sleepless nights and days where there’s no planning involved. Frankly speaking, I had no idea I even had a meeting.”

Rumi’s gaze softened, her empathy as palpable as it had always been. “I can’t imagine how difficult that must be. But the work you’re doing here is incredible. It’s giving so many people hope.”

Her words cut him deeper than she could have known. She was praising the very work that had taken her memories of him, her love for him, and the life they had shared. Maruki’s heart felt like it was splitting in two.

“You’re... kind to say that,” he managed, his voice thick with emotion. “And your work here—it’s remarkable. You’re remarkable.”

For a moment, her expression wavered, as if she sensed something more in his words. But then she smiled, her warmth chasing away the tension.

“Well, I’ll leave you to look over the files,” she said, motioning to the stack of papers she’d prepared. “I hope we can work together to help as many people as possible.”

As she turned to leave, Maruki’s hand twitched at his side. He wanted to reach out, to say something, anything that might bring her closer to the truth. But he stopped himself. She was happy. She had a life. And he had no right to disrupt it.

“Thank you,” he said instead, his voice quiet but sincere. “For everything.”

She paused, glancing back at him with that faint flicker of recognition again, before nodding and walking out the door.

Mid October

Maruki adjusted his collar as he stood outside the charity center, his breath misting in the cool air. Traffic buzzed around him while cognitions walked past with no care for the man who stood before its welcoming gates and its flowers- dressed in a meagre black shirt and jeans. The building was modest but inviting, with warm lights spilling through large windows onto the quiet street.

The cheerful chatter of volunteers drifted out as he hesitated at the door.

It had been a week since he first encountered Rumi at the monthly meeting, and he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her. Against his better judgment, he had decided to come here—not as the detached scientist she thought he was, but as someone desperate to understand why she was here, and why he couldn’t let her go.

Steeling himself, he stepped inside.

---

Rumi was crouched by a stack of boxes when she spotted him loitering in the main foyer as he looked around. Almost too lost. Her face lit up with surprise.

“Dr. Maruki?” she called, brushing her hair back as she watches the man flinch and jump- something poking behind him before he stalls. His lips stretch into a small smile when he meets her gaze.

She stood and glances down at his casual outfit. “I wasn’t expecting you here.”
He offered a small smile, trying not to show how much her presence still disarmed him. “I thought I’d see the work you’re doing first hand. It seemed... important.”

She smiled warmly, a mix of gratitude and pride. “That’s wonderful. I didn’t think you’d make the time. Things must be busy at the lab.”

“They are,” he admitted, glancing around the bustling center. “But this is worth it.”

Rumi led him through the various rooms, explaining the different programs the charity offered. There was a therapy wing, where patients spoke with counselors that Maruki’s program apparently provided, and an activity area filled with laughter as volunteers guided people through art and music sessions.

“Many of them come from rough backgrounds,” Rumi explained. “Some have experienced things no one should ever go through. But we’re making progress, bit by bit. Thanks to your treatments, even the hardest cases are finding happiness.”

Maruki’s gaze lingered on a young man painting at a table. The smile on his face was serene, almost too perfect. Maruki’s chest tightened as he recognized him: a former patient from his lab the first time he came here. He was a meagre cognition when Maruki was still getting a grasp of his powers so he had been…experimenting. He had used Actualization on this man like he did with Yoshizawa-san, erasing years of trauma in a single moment.

“They seem... happy,” Maruki said softly, his voice tinged with unease.

“Isn’t it wonderful?” Rumi replied, her eyes bright. “They deserve this. Everyone does.”
He nodded mechanically, but his thoughts were churning. They did deserve happiness—he’d built his life around that belief. Yet, as he watched them laugh and smile, he couldn’t shake the hollowness that accompanied their joy- echoing within his own brain.

Was it truly theirs, or was it his?

Later, as the evening quieted, Maruki and Rumi sat in the small break room, sipping tea. The noise of the center had dimmed to a gentle hum in the background.

“You really didn’t have to come all the way here,” Rumi said, her tone light. “But I’m glad you did. I think the others will feel more connected, knowing you’re invested.”

Maruki stared into his tea, the steam curling up to meet his face. “It’s... nice to see the impact. Sometimes, in the lab, it’s easy to forget what the work really means.”
Rumi nodded, studying him for a moment. “You seem... thoughtful. Is something bothering you?”

He hesitated, his hand tightening around the cup. He couldn’t tell her the truth, not without unraveling everything she thought she knew. “It’s nothing. Just... seeing so much happiness, it reminds me of why I started this work in the first place.”

She smiled softly, tilting her head. “That’s a good thing, isn’t it?”

“Maybe,” he murmured, his gaze distant. “But happiness... It’s fragile. And sometimes, I wonder if the way we achieve it matters as much as the result.”

Her brow furrowed, but before she could respond, a volunteer entered the room, asking for her help.

Rumi stood, glancing back at him. “Stay as long as you like. I’ll be back.”

As she left, Maruki remained seated, his head heavy with conflicted thoughts. His eyes drifted to a bulletin board filled with photos of the patients, their smiles shining in every picture. It was everything he had worked for—everything he had sacrificed for.

But the dark truth of it all loomed over him. These weren’t memories he could suppress or rewrite. The joy he had given these people came at the cost of their agency, their pain erased by his hand.

They’re happy, he reminded himself, gripping the edge of the table. That’s all that matters.

Yet the guilt persisted, gnawing at the edges of his resolve. The presence of Azathoth stirred faintly in the back of his mind, a reminder of the power he wielded—and the burden it carried.

When Rumi returned, her presence was like a balm to his frayed nerves, though it did nothing to dispel the storm within him.

“Thank you,” he said suddenly, his voice low.

She blinked, caught off guard. “For what?”

“For reminding me why I started all of this,” he said, forcing a smile. “Even if it’s hard to face sometimes.”

Rumi regarded him thoughtfully, as though sensing something deeper in his words, but she simply smiled in return. “Well, I’m glad I could help.”

As the evening wound down, Maruki left the center with a hollow ache in his chest. Rumi’s warmth lingered in his thoughts, a beacon of hope and pain all at once.

He had given so much to make the world a better place. But at what cost?

[#01] SEP: REGENERATED ARM
September, 20XX

It's around 9 pm right now and I still feel sick looking at my arm. I am now convinced that I am actually stuck here and I am not part of some elaborate prank or in my personal hell. I have somehow managed to retain my apartment and no one has questioned the fact that a tentacled man (who in all honestly looks like a rip off of Doc Ock) forcefully broke into his own apartment and started eating his noodles on his sofa the moment he settled in. I am still embarrassed about it but really- I was hungry that time which is strange because my appetite is usually normal.

I have a feeling it has something to do with my uh...injury? I am not sure what to call it but it has certainly been less painful than before.

That Ren was certainly not trying to hold back his attack. I mean I still don't know what I should have done when he had his panic attack. I couldn't just leave that poor boy to his devices- surrounded by a crowd who wouldn't even turn to look at him.

I would have gone insane here all by myself if I didn't run into Dove and Briar so I figured I should return the favour, right? But now that I have realized that I was the cause of his panic- I...I don't know. It would just prove that my therapy didn't work as intended and I am a poor excuse of a councillor as any in that universe. I don't wish to be like that and I hope even if we do end up crossing paths, that Ren doesn't try to attack me right away. I am not the type to hold a grudge but even I have a limit to endurance of course. All of this makes me wonder how influential Azathoth really is. I suppose Yoshizawa-san would know something about this so all I can really do is wait it out and then send her a quick chat to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. I hope she's safe.

After I finished eating I went to take a shower and examined my new arm there. It looks rotten in all honesty and my stomach doesn't feel too well. In all honesty, I don't know how I am still able to stomach it all- I still can't feel my hand even as it responds to me attempting to hold my bowl- it's clear that it is Azathoth's doing. Perhaps I was being too harsh with it since without it, I don't know if I would be here writing this entry in the first place.

Update (00:53 am): The green patches in my hand have started to fade into black. I have become hungry again but at least I can feel the top of my arm. Now I am sure that my body's energy is directly linked to my regeneration. The only problem is...I will have to shop at night. If it's really based on cognition that would mean crime is still rampant, right? Or hell- what if I run into the wrong person who has an intense impression of me?

Update (03:40 am): I am going to cook something for myself with what I have left. I can't sleep with my stomach growling like this.

Update (04:00 am): Azathoth...knows how to cook apparently. I just had to stand at the kitchen counter and watch as his tentacles prepared my things while its appendages curiously hovered over me chopping up vegetables or preparing the meals. He's an interesting one, hmm?

Update (the next day, 09:00 am): I feel a lot better now and I can feel my index finger a little. Still- I don't think it's enough so I will use bandages to wrap up the remaining burnt-up parts and just not try to focus on it for now. Azathoth still means well and soon I think I will contact Kasumi-san again. It feels like I am encouraging us to be dependent on each other like that creep. I will make sure not to be too clingy after I have full control of my persona.

Its much better for me to do this alone.

She did mention that she wanted to be my ally, right? It's been a while since I have had anyone to rely on.

Well aside for...

Hm.

I hope the Akira in my universe is doing alright. That long-nosed man, Igor, said the world wouldn't continue without me- I remember that but it isn't exactly a comforting thought.

I should observe how are the others coping with this arrangement.

SUMMARY
He's incredibly friendly and open to talking to others and hearing them out. He is alert enough to recognize small sentences or lines from the people he listens to and tries to react aptly with the information provided to him. Currently Maruki is maintaining his usual dorky and quirky self even though Azathoth continues to influence his thoughts and actions which can sometimes leave him a bit distracted and lost- unsure on how to communicate to others about his lack of awareness.
Due to his amnesia, he can have episodes of snapping at others when he doesn't mean it.
In truth, Maruki is a broken man at his core. His desire to help others and shouldering their sorrows come from his need to make up for what happened to his ex-fiance Rumi who ends up forgetting about him after her traumatic accident. Due to this Maruki doesn't really allow himself to get close to others even if all he needs right now is a clear direction for his unstable meglomaniac mindset to save the world from its perils.
BACKGROUND
FAMILY
Masayuki Maruki Father
A driven, no-nonsense patriarch, Masayuki is a high-ranking corporate executive who believes that success is measured solely by tangible achievements. He never hesitates to remind Takuto that a secure, “respectable” career is non-negotiable. Though his stern exterior hides a deep-seated need for control and order, his relentless pressure has left Takuto feeling perpetually inadequate

Dr Reika Maruki Mother
A brilliant surgeon, she’s refined and exacting, expecting nothing less than perfection from her children. Her emotional distance is masked by an unwavering focus on results; she rarely offers comfort, always urging Takuto to “choose the right path” by pursuing a stable and prestigious career. In her eyes, psychology is an impractical, indulgent dream.

Dr Haruto Maruki "the golden child"-Older brother
Haruto is the golden child—everything his parents hoped for. Excelling in a prestigious field of engineering, he effortlessly meets the high standards set by the family. While he may feel a tinge of pity for his middle brother, he’s too preoccupied with his own success to challenge the status quo. His achievements only serve as a constant reminder to Takuto of where he “fell short.”

Misaki Maruki "the gifted high achiever"-Younger sister
The youngest, Misaki is a prodigy whose talents have been groomed to perfection. Her accomplishments as an excellent lawyer consistently earn her praise and admiration. Unintentionally, her effortless success deepens Takuto’s insecurities, as she is seen as the family’s shining star. Her condescension towards him isn’t born of malice, more out of indifference.
RELATIONSHIPS
Rumi former girlfriend
From childhood friends to finally realising each other's true feelings amid an apocalypse- Takuto and Rumi were like two peas in a pod. Not a single day goes by when he doesn't mourn for her and her parents.

Karin Ikeda College fling. Ex.
Dated her for half a year after he and Rumi went through a rough patch during college. They didn't necessarily get along. Frankly speaking, a little bit of an unhealthy relationship and being with her made him realize just how much he missed Rumi.
EARLY LIFE
  • Met the love of his life, Rumi, and things were smooth sailing from there.Graduated with a High School diploma at St. Hermalin batch.
  • Received his Master's in Psychology and started his PhD in Neuroscience.
  • Lost Rumi because of the incident and used Azathoth's power for the first time.
  • Persona 5 Royal timeline events unfold.
  • He lost to the Phantom Thieves, but instead of stopping the helicopter from escaping, he returned to his Garden of Eden. He presumably passed away or went down with his own palace while crying at the bottom of one of Rumi's statues, all alone and miserable.
  • Joins the VRDR on 1st September.

ABILITIES
ACTUALIZATION
Maruki has the ability to actualize things into existence. This could range from manifesting infinite snacks in his pockets to growing flowers or making structures in the cognitive world. His powers, albeit weakened, are nearly at the level of god-tier which he doesn't realize. He can change someone's perception of themselves to erasing or manifesting new memories in its place
REGENERATION
Since Azathoth is not a healing persona and Maruki isn't experienced enough to use his powers- he can learn to regenerate his limbs instead. In this case Azathoth can fuse with his body and fill in between his body until it heals by itself. Using Azathoth's god-like powers at Maruki's young stage could overwhelm his body to the point of breaking.
AZATHOTH
From personal assistance to moving from one place to another- his persona follows him like a shadow as it can assist or argue with Maruki. Maruki's Persona behaves in a drastically different way from other Personas. It is aware of the choices made by its user ie the Marukis from the other universes and can occasionally help this Maruki with certain problems and situations on its own. Not only can it use its powers from within the real world, it is extremely unstable when used to do so, as seen in its ability to cause memory loss and cognitive dissonance as drawbacks to its powers. It also displays an initiative and sentience somewhat separate from Maruki's, such as when Azathoth pushes him to continue his plan when he begins to have doubts, though this could be interpreted as Maruki's inner voice guiding him instead. Additionally, when Maruki summons his Personas, they must remain tangible and vulnerable to attack, rather than appearing only momentarily when attacking, a trait shared thus far only with Asterius (excluding navigation Personas).
TRIVIA
  • If Maruki manipulates the cognition of an individual to make them believe they are another person, such as in Sumire's case, their perception of others will change to make them believe they are being referred to by the name of the person whom they are impersonating. This implies that, without complete control of Mementos, Maruki's abilities can only manipulate his targets' memories and perceptions of themselves and others.
  • Maruki has trouble preparing dishes with apples. He also has a sweet tooth!
  • Azathoth constantly speaks in Maruki's mind. In addition to this, Maruki gets flashbacks of his own world when pushed into a more emotionally-driven comprimising situation.
  • Maruki wears a watch on his left hand which was an engagement gift from Rumi. He treasures that watch with everything he has.
